Agricultural budget planning

Posted on May 21, 2024
In an economic setting where costs are rising rapidly, it’s becoming imperative to improve the budget management of our companies. Particularly when considering the skyrocketing costs of inputs, we must know how to rigorously assess our needs, because mistakes can be costly. This is where the usefulness of management tools comes in. Spending more time planning your purchases is a more than worthwhile investment.

3 agricultural budget planning tools to try out

When it comes to the technical and economic management of a farm, several specialized tools are available. Whether we’re talking about economic reference files, accounting or bookkeeping software, there are many formats of tools available. All you have to do is choose which one you prefer.

The Agro-calculateur is a costing tool that allows you to determine your production and marketing costs with great detail. The online tool was created by CETAB+ and several other contributors. Its main advantage is that it’s easy to get support on how to use it. Training on the tool is also available online.

The CETAB+ also offers free online downloadable crop, labour and sales records. Simply fill in the appropriate boxes for your circumstances and the formulas automatically tally the results.

The CRAAQ, on its end, provides access to economic references specific to agricultural sectors such as field crops, horticulture and animal production. These sheets provide access to up-to-date economic data such as price trends for certain inputs, yields for specific crops, compilations of product sales prices and operating budgets. However, a subscription is required to access the full set of documents.

If one prefers simpler files, creating a personalized Excel spreadsheet remains an accessible alternative. Since Excel allows us to create entire charts, which we can adapt to our specific realities, it remains the most flexible tool.
